- ➤ Operation Bootstrap in Portage County seeks diaper donations as volunteers deliver at least one pack daily to families in need; Executive Director Roseann Willett DeBot, who has led the group for 57 years, says no referral is required for diaper assistance, with support from the United Way & local drives. - ➤ The Wisconsin Realtors Association reported on Thursday morning that median home prices rose 6.3% to $340k in April amid a 7.4% rise in sales and lower 30-year fixed mortgage rates at 6.33%, though experts say available inventory must increase 62% for market balance. WSAW
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Thirty-one Rosholt Elementary students completed the NASA DISCOVERIES camp at the Wisconsin Lions Foundation, where they collected data and learned science from NASA mentors & project specialists. They presented their findings on the final day and the program may return if funding is secured. WSAW
- ➤ On Thursday, May 21, Wausau West High School students held their 4th annual food truck project outside the cafeteria to support the school's food pantry and honor the late Angel Gabriel Vargas; they raised over $1,000 and half went to the pantry & half went to Vargas' family. WAOW
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Department of Natural Resources is asking volunteers to help track endangered Karner blue butterflies starting in July in many Wisconsin counties. Volunteers can sign up online and join optional training at Beaver Creek Reserve on June 11 and Sandhill Wildlife Area on June 13. Wausau Daily Herald
- ➤ USDA-Wildlife Services confirmed that wolves killed two calves on May 17 at a Marathon County property in the town of Texas (north of Wausau) and advised farmers to contact USDA when livestock appear endangered since the species is federally protected. WSAW

- ➤ Central Wisconsin Airport in Mosinee held its annual live fire training today using controlled propane flames to simulate an aircraft fuel spill; firefighters practiced foam-spraying techniques with a new fire truck (CWA Director Brian Grefe said it is expected to serve for 15-20 years). WAOW
