- ➤ Restlawn Memorial Park in Wausau is preparing for its annual remembrance program—where flags honor veterans—and is hosting the ceremony Monday at 11 a.m. Cemetery officials hope the event inspires younger generations to keep the tradition alive. WSAW

CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Wausau West & D.C. Everest played their regular-season finale Friday and honored local teenager Bradyn Bohn, who died as a sextortion victim in March, by having his family throw out the first pitch & both teams wearing commemorative jerseys in his memory. WAOW
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The D.C. Everest Fishing team partnered with special needs students for an annual fishing event at Rib Mountain where high school mentors taught first-time anglers basic skills — the event used five boats and many volunteers — showing local support for outdoor learning. WAOW
- ➤ Teachers and volunteers hosted the annual Day at the Bay event at Bluegill Bay Park (a local favorite) where the D.C. Everest Fishing Team taught special needs students fishing skills and outdoor lessons. The event (now in its 19th year) saw nearly 40 students enjoying hands-on learning and a chance to connect with nature. WSAW

- ➤ After the House passed the tax and spending cut bill on Thursday, state officials said SNAP changes will force Wisconsin to cover about $314 million each year as federal cuts of $286 billion take effect over the next decade—local nonprofits and community groups in Marathon County are preparing for increased demand and expenses if work requirements expand. This shift in funding may lead to higher state costs that impact services such as food assistance and consumer protection. WSAW
- ➤ Wausau Mayor Doug Diny said any funds received from the PFAS settlement will be used to pay down debt on the water treatment plant — a move aimed at preventing future tax hikes. The city, which joined the lawsuit in May 2023 after spending more than $17 million to retrofit the plant, expects to receive its share of the settlement soon. WSAW
