CULTURE NEWS

  • The Wausau Conservatory of Music wrapped up its sixth Musical Storytime program Tuesday — giving students five summer books at Marathon County Head Start’s Barrington Center. Local leaders joined staff to help spark reading for about 200 children.  WSAW
  • Portage County artist Boleslaw Kochanowski (from Junction City) and his sons have unveiled a new bronze bust honoring Revolutionary War general Casimir Pulaski, now on display at Jefferson Barracks Park in Saint Louis. The sculpture uses weathering steel to symbolize strength and durability, coinciding with Memorial Day and the nation’s 250th anniversary.  WSAW
  • Local veteran Jason Rumbaugh, who earned a Purple Heart in Iraq, writes Waves of Shrapnel to share his six years of combat and a near-fatal IED encounter. The 400-page memoir is available on Amazon & at Graff Mercantile in Weston.  WAOW

  • Today, warmer weather in Marathon County has raised soil temperatures into the 80s—helping oats, corn and winter wheat thrive while farmers warn of a potential need for rain soon.  WSAW

  • Wausau was named a 2025 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation, marking 45 consecutive years of meeting core standards like maintaining a tree board + celebrating Arbor Day with the community.  WAOW

HEALTH NEWS

  • Aspirus Health is promoting measures to prevent and manage high blood pressure as part of High Blood Pressure Education Month, advising local residents to check their readings, reduce sodium intake, and exercise to lower risk (this silent harm can lead to serious complications).  Wausau Times

  • Wausau East High School students cheered on athlete Kallie, who carried the torch on May 20 ahead of the Special Olympics USA Games, where more than 3,000 athletes will compete in Minnesota from June 20 to 26.  Wausau Daily Herald
