COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Wausau River District will host three Night Market events — featuring live music, local food trucks, craft beverages and vendors — on June 19, July 17 and August 21 from 5 to 9 p.m. on 3rd Street between Washington and McClellan as admission is free and open to all ages.  WSAW
  • Wausau Events announced free live music starting June 4 on the 400 Block in downtown Wausau every Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m.—the summer series will feature local and regional acts playing rock, pop, blues, and jazz and will include a Concert Off the Square on August 20 at Kennedy Park in Weston.  WAOW

CRIME NEWS

  • A trial began May 28th in Marathon County Circuit Court for a 38-year-old Wausau registered nurse charged with neglect in her grandmother’s death—she reportedly stopped vital medications and ignored EMS advice—with the case set to conclude May 30th.  WSAW

CULTURE NEWS

  • Portage County Historical Society will host the summer concert series 'Music at the Mill' at the historic Rising Star Mill in Nelsonville starting June 25 at 6:30 p.m.—the family-friendly shows support the society’s work to preserve and educate about the site.  WSAW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • D.C. Everest students, teachers and the fishing team have worked nearly a school year to make a pontoon boat handicap accessible so every student can fish — local donations and business support raised over $6,500 to help with refurbishments, and the work is almost complete. This project will soon give all students the chance to explore local waters.  WSAW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The western section of Washington Street and the new intersection at Washington and 3rd Street in downtown Wausau will re-open on Tuesday, June 3. The road has been closed since May 12 for construction and pedestrians should follow detour signs while access to the parking ramp at 101 Washington Street remains open.  WSAW
  • Representative Derrick Van Orden visited Feltz’s Dairy Store and Farm where he toured the operation and spoke with owners about his work in Congress to keep the dairy industry strong — he said he will push for changes in the farm bill to aid American agriculture — as part of several stops in Portage County.  WAOW
  • Gov. Tony Evers signed a $10.1M contract to improve WIS 29 between Purple Martin Lane and Little Rib River in Marathon County, with American Asphalt of Wisconsin set to resurface the road, replace culverts and install guardrails. Construction will begin on June 2 and is expected to be completed by fall 2025—throughout the work the highway will remain open with one lane in each direction.  WAOW
