COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today at Mosinee Community Center of Hope, the United Way of Marathon County brought a mobile closet and food pantry to give free clothing and food to people in need—this year it held eight events and will double its mobile projects next year.  WAOW

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A $50,000 Powerball ticket was sold at a Wausau Kwik Trip on 1415 West St. on May 28th; lottery officials said the win follows a $25,000 scratch ticket sold earlier this month. Officials note the odds — 1 in 913,130 — show the win is rare.  WAOW

CRIME NEWS

  • A Wausau woman was arrested for her seventh operating while intoxicated offense when state patrol officers stopped her maroon SUV carrying two children under 16 on Interstate 90/94 at milepost 92 near Wisconsin Dells on May 29 — Tyquaniesha Bell, 28, showed signs of impairment in the early morning hours.  WAOW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Wisconsin DNR is asking landowners with at least 60 acres to host three hunters for the Gun Deer Hunt For Hunters With Disabilities from Oct 4-12, 2025 + applications are due by July 1, 2025.  WAOW

HEALTH NEWS

  • This summer the Marathon County Health Department will test water quality at Big Eau Pleine Park, Dells of Eau Claire Park, Mission Lake Park, and Sunny Vale Park—covering weekly tests from Memorial Day through Labor Day. If bacteria levels go too high, advisories will be given—though the beaches will remain open.  WAOW
  • The Marathon County Health Department launched a new beach monitoring program this summer to test water quality at four popular parks with swimming areas. Weekly water samples will be taken through Labor Day — advisories will be issued if bacteria levels rise — to help families decide when it is safe to swim.  WSAW
  • On Wednesday, state lawmakers gathered at the Capitol to discuss Gail’s Bill which would require insurance companies to cover extra breast cancer screenings for women with dense breast tissue — the bill honors Gail Zeamer and could increase premiums by four to seven cents per month. Lawmakers plan to bring the measure to the Senate floor by the end of the week to help detect breast cancer early.  WSAW

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Thursday, Lakeland defeated Mosinee 1-0 in eight innings—Sarah Barton scored on a sac fly while Saylor Timmerman pitched a shutout—to advance to their first-ever softball sectional with a next matchup against Medford on Tuesday. Mosinee’s baseball team also won 12-0 in five innings—scoring eight runs in the first inning—and will face Ashland in the regional semifinals on Tuesday.  WSAW
