Here's your local news at a glance for Monday, the 1st of June.
Good morning, Wausau.
🏘️ Community
Hundreds gathered at Hillside Pub in Ringle on Sunday (May 31) to raise funds for families affected by an EF-3 tornado that struck over a month ago; the fundraiser featured a basket raffle, bake sale, and live music, and proceeds went to the Ringle Fire Department to support rebuilding efforts.
🌲 Environment
Today, Wausau was named a 2025 Tree City USA, marking its 45th year of commitment to urban forestry programs.
City forester John Kahon said the designation recognizes ongoing efforts to maintain a tree board and community tree ordinance (among other standards) that support local green spaces.
🏛️ Government
F-35s, F-16s, and other military aircraft will fly above central Wisconsin as part of the Sentry North exercise today until June 12, with daily training from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. over the Volk Field Air National Guard Base (FAA permits supersonic speeds above 30,000 feet).
