CRIME NEWS
- ➤ An 18-year-old from Texas was arrested Tuesday night in Marathon for breaking into two homes and threatening families—he is out on a $2,500 cash bond and his breathalyzer showed a .279 BAC—his case is set for a pre-trial conference in July. WSAW
- ➤ The Court of Appeals denied Tony Haase’s request to delay his trial for double murders after his attorney challenged a judge’s ruling on DNA evidence collected from a 2016 traffic stop—Haase, charged with the 1992 stabbing deaths of Tanna Togstad and Tim Mumbrue, is set to return to court Friday and face trial this summer. - ➤ Joshua L. Lake of Stratford received an 11-year federal prison sentence for leading a methamphetamine trafficking operation in Marathon County—he pleaded guilty in February amid charges that included distributing large quantities of methamphetamine and cocaine and possessing a firearm as a felon. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Wausau School District and Marathon County Parks Department will offer free summer lunches for kids under 18 at Marathon Park’s Big Kitchen from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays beginning Monday, June 9th and ending July 24—menus will mirror those served during the school year. WSAW
- ➤ Amazon donated about 800 backpacks from its Weston Distribution Center to Wausau students through the Fill A Backpack, Fill A Need program. Vickie Christianson said students who qualify for free or reduced lunch will pick up supplies at fall open houses – the donation aims to ease the cost of buying school supplies. WSAW
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A new community paramedic program in Wausau — run by Aspirus and the Fire Department — cut 911 calls by more than half since its start in late 2024. The program connects patients with long-term care to prevent emergencies and ease pressure on services. WAOW
- ➤ The Community Blood Center is asking for blood and platelet donations, especially for Type O—needed during surgeries and emergencies—and donors in our area are urged to book appointments at local centers or mobile drives. WAOW
