BUSINESS NEWS

  • Wisconsin farmer Michael DeJong is among 20 U.S. growers testing John Deere's driverless tillage system on his 2,000-acre farm near Edgar — he ordered his autonomous-ready tractor nearly two years ago and plans to benefit from faster planting with a full commercial release set for 2026.  Wausau Daily Herald

CRIME NEWS

  • Benjamin Sanchez, an 18-year-old from Texas, broke into two homes Tuesday night in Marathon City—he threatened an occupant, failed a .279 breath test, faces one felony burglary and five misdemeanor charges, and was released on a $2,500 cash bond with further court action scheduled for July 9th.  WAOW

CULTURE NEWS

  • Concerts on the Square will return on Wednesday evening downtown when free live music is offered from 6 to 8 p.m. The summer series — sponsored by Wausau Events and NewsChannel 7 — will feature local and regional acts and is expected to draw about 2,000 residents each week.  WSAW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At Weston Elementary, students celebrated the end of the school year on Thursday with games and face-painting in the schoolyard — they said goodbye to their teachers and classmates as they looked forward to summer break.  WSAW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A family in Town of Rome lost their son to a peanut allergy last fall and pushed local police to equip first responders with EpiPens—now Rep. Scott Krug plans a bill to make the change statewide. The family will hold a benefit car and truck show at Golden Sands Speedway on June 21 to raise awareness for their cause.  WSAW
  • Three Wisconsin legislators introduced Price Transparency for Patients in Madison on Thursday to require hospitals display upfront prices and help patients avoid unexpected costs. The lawmakers, including Sen. Julian Bradley, Sen. Mary Felzkowski, and Rep. Robert Wittke, said the measure is needed as Wisconsin has high hospital costs — and they launched TheHospitalBill.com to inform residents and gather support.  WSAW

SPORTS NEWS

  • Seven area softball teams played on Thursday and five advanced to the state tournament as D.C. Everest, Lakeland, Pacelli, Almond—Bancroft, and Thorp posted wins; four teams shut out their opponents—D.C. Everest won 7—0, Lakeland won 1—0, Pacelli won 11—0, and Almond—Bancroft won 5—0 while Thorp beat Northwood/Solon Springs 13—5. Division One Quarterfinals will begin on Wednesday, June 11th.  WSAW
