CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 26-year-old inmate died on June 8 after an apparent suicide attempt when fellow inmates alerted jail staff on June 1 — emergency responders provided on-site care and transported him to a local hospital. Wausau Daily Herald
- ➤ A 41-year-old Wausau woman, Ashley Pinkert, faces 12 criminal charges for burglaries in Marathon County on April 23 and April 24—police said safes, firearms and personal items were taken from homes in Rib Falls, Weston and Easton while she remains in jail on a $5,000 bond with a preliminary hearing set for June 11. - ➤ The city of Wausau is seeking a new vendor to run the Riverlife concession stand this summer—open every Friday through Sunday in July and August with a monthly lease rate of $500 and a lease term from July 1 to August 31; proposals that include additional days or hours are welcome. WSAW
- ➤ Construction on County Highway R in Rib Mountain ran ahead of schedule, with crews planning to finish paving early this week and complete pavement markings later this week or next week — after which the 25 mph construction zone speed limit will revert to normal. WSAW

- ➤ Two men from Bridge Street Mission’s Men’s Recovery Program finished a nine-month plan that included courses, counseling, and skill training and now have jobs. Their graduation was celebrated in a packed room—showing the strong bond they formed while battling addiction. WSAW

- ➤ Travel — Leisure magazine recognized three Wisconsin lakes as top U.S. vacation spots, ranking Lake Superior as number one, Lake Winnebago as number eight and Lake Michigan as number twelve.
