GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Attorney General Josh Kaul said he and 54 other state attorneys general plan to move forward with a proposed $7.4 billion settlement with Purdue Pharma that could give state and local governments up to $80.1 million over 15 years—local participation will depend on bankruptcy court approval for staged payments.  WSAW
  • The Economic Development Department is asking North 2nd Street residents for ideas about local development—feedback will shape a Request for Interest to be presented on July 1 so proposals can be chosen in August or September.  WSAW

HEALTH NEWS

  • Marathon County Health Department is launching a water testing program at local parks this summer to check E. coli levels at Big Eau Pleine, Dells of Eau Claire, Mission Lake, and Sunny Vale. The county will post results on its website and issue advisories if levels get high—helping swimmers know when it is safe to swim.  WSAW
  • Aspirus Health and Safe Kids Marathon County have relaunched the Helmet Hero program to reward local kids for wearing helmets while riding bikes, scooters, roller skates and skateboards—Wausau and Mountain Bay Metro Police will distribute free cake cone vouchers at Briq’s Soft Serve to encourage safety. The initiative aims to reduce head injuries by 45% and stress that riders of all ages should wear helmets.  WSAW
