COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Community members gathered at Forward Beverage Company today to mark the kickoff for the 2025 Walk to End Alzheimer's — the largest fundraiser held by the Alzheimer’s Association, where attendees signed up and received drink tickets. The official two-mile walk will take place at Marathon Park on September 27th. WAOW
- ➤ Bluegill Bay County Park is hosting the Summer Tsunami event this weekend, organized by four local non-profits to feature fast boat racing, water skiing, and live concerts — over 80 boats are set to race with speeds up to 100 miles per hour while food and donation-based entry support park attractions. Proceeds will help fund the non-profit groups and future events. WSAW

- ➤ A&W will open a new restaurant at 2805 Schofield Ave in Weston on June 23, offering rootbeer and cheese curd. It replaces Fuzzy's Taco’s, which closed in December 2024 after a brief run, and follows an earlier A&W on the north side that closed in 2019. WSAW
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Children and teens will have access to free breakfast and lunch this summer at several sites in Wausau and Merrill — most locations require meals to be eaten on site while one allows take-home options. Local school districts, the Boys and Girls Club and community churches are offering these programs from early June through August. Wausau Daily Herald
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Child advocacy centers in Wausau will lose tens of thousands of dollars if the state does not secure dedicated funding by June 30. They get $17,000 from the state plus $80,000 from grants and may cut staff and end key forensic interviews—potentially reducing much-needed support for children. WSAW
- ➤ The Wisconsin Assembly passed Bradyn’s Law, which sets new punishments for sextortion and gives payment help to victims and their families. The Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee will hold a public hearing Wednesday—then the bill goes to the governor for approval. WSAW
