  • On the first anniversary of his death, the Department of Corrections dedicated a seating area outside Lincoln Hills to honor Corey Proulx, a youth counselor who lost his life after intervening in an attack. His memorial features symbolic plantings of white peonies for his kind heart, lilac bushes for his loved ones, and orange flowers for his favorite color — a tribute that will help guide those who remember him.  WSAW
  • After Army Veteran Keith Schmidt’s home was damaged by a tornado in April, American Quality Homes repaired his roof free with donated supplies from a partnering company—saving him from high repair costs. Michael Ebben said the company regularly helps local heroes and first responders in need.  WAOW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Marathon County Sheriff’s Office announced a temporary safety zone near Wausau Municipal Airport for the Wings Over Wausau Air Show on June 27 and 28. Lake Wausau will be closed to boats from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on both days and the boat landing at Bluegill County Park will close from 6:00 a.m. on June 27 through the event+the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources will enforce the zone+vehicles left in restricted areas risk towing.  WAOW
  • The Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled Wednesday that Gov. Tony Evers’ partial veto of a bill was not allowed—siding with the Legislature by allowing them to hold $50 million in a special fund for a new literacy program.  WAOW

HEALTH NEWS

  • Marshfield Children’s Hospital has seen a big positive change since facility dog Dolly Pawton joined six months ago and soothed 228 young patients during treatments. Staff say her calming presence helps families feel less scared and donations help cover her weekly grooming costs — a service provided by Pet Supplies Plus — as they plan more ways to support children in isolation.  WSAW

  • Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas, 89, returned home under hospice care after a severe MRSA infection damaged his heart and digestive system.
