  • Monk Botanical Gardens dedicated Sara’s Storybook Garden on Thursday to honor Sara Quirt Sann—a local advocate for children who was injured in a March 2017 shooting. Dozens of family members, friends, and supporters gathered in the rain to celebrate her legacy while the gardens now offer a peaceful space for local families.  WSAW
  • Chalkfest Wausau said they urgently need volunteers to help with set-up, clean-up and general assistance at the annual chalk art festival scheduled for Saturday and Sunday—organizers depend on early help to prepare and run the event smoothly.  WSAW
  • Miltrim Farms, a family-run operation that uses robot technology to milking up to 1,800 cows, will host Marathon County’s Dairy Breakfast on June 29 from 8 a.m. to noon — the event will let local residents see the farm’s modern practices and include news team coverage from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.  WSAW

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Wausau City Council approved Pho Zone as the new vendor to operate the Riverlife concession stand Tuesday night. Pho Zone plans to open the stand next week—serving boba teas, fruit teas, hot and iced coffee, ice cream cones and its specialty ice cream rolls with a lease from July 1 to August 31.  WSAW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Wausau city leaders are negotiating with Bridge Street Mission to open a permanent overnight shelter — a plan to replace the temporary one run by police at First United Methodist Church. The facility will include a commercial kitchen and day center — details to be finalized by July 8 with a possible council vote on July 9.  WAOW
  • The Wausau Police Department reminds drivers to follow traffic procedures when leaving Wings Over Wausau after tonight’s and Saturday’s fireworks—extra pedestrian and bicycle traffic is expected and shuttles will run between downtown and the airport at set times.  WSAW
  • The state Assembly passed a bipartisan bill on June 24 that removes the $48,000 income cap for Alzheimer's caregiver services, expanding eligibility for local support; the Senate approved the measure by voice vote on June 18 and it now heads to the governor’s desk with an estimated cost of $3.05 million—aiming to help about 205,000 unpaid caregivers in Wisconsin.  Wausau Daily Herald

  • Connor Strasser, who has battled kidney failure, cancer, and heart surgery after treatment, is getting a second kidney transplant today as his sister Marlena donates her kidney. The family has made over 300 hospital visits since he was born—her selfless act gives a new step in his care—and they hope his story inspires others.  WAOW
