CULTURE NEWS

  • American Legion Post 10 reopened the expanded military museum at Bunkers Restaurant and Tribute Golf in Wausau, which now displays military equipment, uniforms and flags from wars + photos from World War One to today. The museum’s Purple Heart Room gives local veterans a place to share their stories + preserves important history.  WAOW

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Three peregrine falcon chicks — Flaps, Hercules, and Lee — hatched at the WPS Weston Power Plant have taken their first flights and are learning to hunt; they will leave the power plant later this month to start independent lives.  WSAW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting Oct. 1, Wisconsin will raise vehicle title fees by $50 and driver's license fees by $8.50 to generate funds for road, bridge, and infrastructure improvements. The new budget also increases truck licensing fees by 10 and bumps fees for replacement plates while introducing new blackout and retro yellow license plates.  Wausau Daily Herald
  • Gov. Tony Evers signed a two-year budget early Thursday that both parties approved to secure federal Medicaid funds by raising hospital fees from 1.8% to 6% amid rush votes in both chambers. The plan cuts income taxes for workers and retirees, ends the sales tax on electric bills, and adds funds for special education and child care — steps aimed at protecting rural hospital services.  WSAW
