COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Over the weekend, Taste 'N Glow Balloon Fest in Stettin drew an estimated 12,000 to 13,000 people even though rainy weather kept some balloons grounded on the first night. Festival organizers said they hope better weather next year will let the event fly both nights with full balloon displays.  WSAW

CRIME NEWS

  • A 19-year-old Mosinee man was cited on July 9 on Highway 51 near Birch when a deputy clocked his motorcycle at 121 mph in a 65 mph zone, and he received citations for speed, reckless driving, and unauthorized display of registration (he said his speedometer was broken).  WSAW
  • On Sunday a Plover mother found unmarked pills and trash in a LEGO box bought from Walmart, and Plover PD is investigating the incident—officials said the items did not come from the manufacturer and urged parents to check packages before children open them.  WSAW

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Construction crews are building four subdivisions in Weston—two more are in planning to meet rising housing demand; the village added two new wells last year to support growth. By the end of this year, nearly 80 new homes will be added—making this the highest housing start total since 2004 as developers offer homes priced from $200,000 to $335,000.  WSAW

SPORTS NEWS

  • Wittenberg’s 16U Snow Hawks won the Youth World Series title in June by beating teams from larger towns in a multi-day tournament and proving they can compete on the big stage. The team will aim for a tournament in Myrtle Beach and is raising about $20,000 through fundraisers + community support before August 7.  WSAW
  • Dale's Weston Lanes in Weston is hosting qualifier rounds until Thursday for the Junior Gold Championships, a national youth bowling tournament that runs through Saturday, July 19; up to 3,500 bowlers are expected to compete. Local businesses are already seeing a boost from visiting families—this event is one of eight centers in Wisconsin hosting the tournament.  WAOW
