BUSINESS NEWS

  • Wausau’s old Bull Falls Brewery building will become Bull Falls Brewing Company’s new beer garden and will open on Saturday, July 26, with operating hours on Fridays and Saturdays from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.—owners Jason Peck and Kurt Mueller plan to add a new kitchen, unique beers and a stage for live music. They expect the Bavarian-themed space to draw visitors from across the region—inviting locals to rediscover a well-loved local landmark in a fresh way.  WSAW

CRIME NEWS

  • Shawano and Marathon County police are searching for Michael Thorson (a 6-foot tall, 180-pound man who is armed and dangerous) after he stole two vehicles from a Wittenberg family and damaged one while leaving a 12-gauge shotgun behind, turning a normal day into chaos.  WSAW
  • The Shawano County Sheriff’s Office is searching for Michael Thorson, wanted on a felony probation warrant for vehicle thefts and burglaries, and authorities say he is armed—residents should call law enforcement if they see him.  WAOW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Wausau School District has signed a purchase contract with Faith Christian Academy to sell the Hawthorn Hills Elementary School property at 1600 Kickbusch Street with the closing set for mid-August — the location was listed at $650,000 when first put on the market.  WAOW
  • The Wausau School District has entered a purchase contract with Faith Christian Academy to sell the former Hawthorn Hills Elementary School—its sale is expected to close in mid-August.  WSAW
  • Many Wisconsin families have already begun back-to-school shopping as early July saw two-thirds finish their purchases—half did so due to worries over tariff-driven price hikes. Parents are switching to discount retailers and cheaper brands to keep spending flat even though clothing and shoes may rise over the long term—Target is keeping 2024 prices on common supplies this season.  Wausau Daily Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting October 1, Wisconsinites will no longer pay state sales tax on electric and natural gas bills under a new bipartisan law—extending the previous seasonal break to a year-round exemption that is expected to save an estimated $178 million over the next two years. The law will lower average monthly bills by about $5.  WSAW
