- ➤ Vendors began setting up at Marathon Park on Tuesday as preparations continued for the Wisconsin Valley Fair—set to run from July 29 to August 3—while Fair Administrator Jodi Langenhahn said new layouts and more animal shows will mark this year’s event. WSAW
- ➤ Milwaukee Bucks shooting guard AJ Green visited Faith Christian Academy Tuesday in Wausau to coach a basketball camp where he shared his love for basketball and his faith. He said he will host more camps this summer to teach teamwork + life lessons to local students. WSAW
- ➤ Phase 1 of the off-road bike course at Evergreen Elementary in Rothschild will open next month, featuring bike paths with hills, valleys, bermed corners, and jumps. A grand opening celebration is set for August 21 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.—with supervised riding and helmet support available. WSAW

- ➤ Clean Slate Coffee Shop in Rothschild remains open despite a false article that hurt business, and owner Jen Fox said she will keep serving customers while searching for a buyer who will continue the shop’s operation. Fox posted on Facebook urging customers to return after misinformation spread about the shop closing. WAOW
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ WPS has been replacing all seven worn gates on the 105-year-old dam built in 1920 to control the river's water levels and produce energy for 6,000 homes. The work will finish this summer when the final gate is replaced plus new equipment makes raising and lowering easier. WSAW
- ➤ Wisconsin's new state budget—signed on July 3—eliminated the state's sales tax on household energy bills, expanding the prior seasonal exemption and expected to save taxpayers more than $178 million over the next two years. Wausau Daily Herald
- ➤ Starting in April, residents 67 and older can subtract up to $24,000 in retirement income from their state taxes—joint filers can exclude $48,000—to reduce their tax bills, with average savings of $705 for singles and $1,242 for couples; lawmakers hope this change will encourage more seniors to stay in Wisconsin. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Wausau Police Department and Marathon County Health Department report that drug overdoses have dropped significantly this year with only five cases including one death—a nearly 50% decrease from last year. Officials credit Narcan, fentanyl test strips, public health vending machines at Community Partner’s Campus and Health First, and Drug Take Back days in April and October for the decline. WSAW
