- ➤ Redwood St. Roasters in Edgar is expanding its building and upgrading its coffee equipment with a $250,000 state grant; co-owner Francisco Guerrero said the project followed over a year of close collaboration (the grant is part of the state’s support for rural small businesses). WSAW
- ➤ Wausau city approved a permit for A&W to operate in the vacant auto sales building at 2719 Stewart Avenue—199 Ride closed in 2020. A development timeline was released for the new location and plans follow a previous site on the north side. WSAW
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Mosinee Log Jam Festival began Friday with living history displays, live music, and log rolling contests that celebrated the region’s logging heritage—today the festival offers a youth log rolling competition and public challenges while Sunday will feature professional contests with a local champion competing. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Tony Evers ordered flags to fly at half-staff today in Shawano to honor WWII veteran Private Herbert E. McLaughlin—his remains were recently identified and will be buried when flags lower from sunrise until sunset. WSAW
- ➤ The Wausau Fire Department held training yesterday in downtown Wausau at the Forest Street Parking Ramp — crews in gear and fire apparatus simulated emergency activity near the courthouse and McDonald’s. WSAW
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Sarah Ruffi—a longtime Wausau attorney—had life-saving brain surgery in July at Mayo Clinic where doctors removed three tumors, and she now will start treatment to help her recover. Her family has shut her law office temporarily and is organizing support with daily tasks as they face uncertain next steps. WSAW
