ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Marathon County Sheriff’s Office said a pick-up truck left Highway J at 5:30 a.m. Sunday near Weston — it hit a ditch 3 miles south of Highway 29, struck trees and a driveway embankment, caught fire and was destroyed with no one inside while Highway J was closed for 4½ hours as the driver faces citations for inattentive driving.  WSAW

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Chipotle’s newest restaurant is opening today at 225407 Rib Mountain Dr.—it will hire about 30 staff and offers Tex-Mex options including burrito bowls, burritos, tacos and salads while opening from 10:45 a.m. to 10 p.m.  WSAW

CRIME NEWS

  • A sentencing hearing will be held in October for a 38-year-old man accused of selling drugs that led to the overdose death of a pregnant woman in Stevens Point — prosecutors said he sold the drugs to her boyfriend, who is already serving an eight-year sentence.  WSAW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Domtar held its groundbreaking ceremony on August 19th at Rothschild to launch a three to four-year dam modernization project to repair the 276-foot timber crib spillway—aiming to preserve Lake Wausau and improve flood control—for local jobs. The project has bipartisan support with $42 million in state funds and will boost local contributions.  WSAW

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Kimberly Frodl of Aspirus Health said that heavy social media use can hurt a child's sleep, focus, and grades as they shift from summer break to school. She urged parents to set clear rules such as no screens during meals and keeping phones out of bedrooms — advice that can help children ease into the school year.  WSAW
  • Dr. Sarah Hostetler at Aspirus said people with acne can try healthier habits by removing foods like milk from their diet for 6 to 8 weeks and using products with simple ingredients like salicylic acid—steps that may help clear skin for both teens and adults.  WSAW
