- ➤ Wausau Events held the first Concert off the Square in Weston on Wednesday, August 20th at Kennedy Park where the band The HYDE performed from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event was sponsored by the Village of Weston to showcase park renovations—food vendors and overflow parking at Mount Olive Church and DC Everest High School met community needs. - ➤ People gathered on the 400 Block for the 11th annual All-Stars Under the Stars concert that raised money for local veterans through the Man of Honor Society. Opening ceremonies started at 6 p.m.—a 21-gun salute, speeches and a Journey tribute band added excitement to the event. WSAW
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Wisconsin journalist Alec Luhn was rescued from a remote mountain in Norway after a fall broke his left femur, fractured his pelvis, and injured several spinal vertebrae — he said his family's hope kept him alive while he waited for a helicopter rescue. Wausau Daily Herald
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Faith Christian Academy is moving into the old Hawthorn Hills Elementary School building in Wausau after the school closed due to district consolidation. The school will open on Sept. 3 for 360 students and will keep its playground open to the public (a mural honoring the Hawthorn name is planned). WSAW
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ State lawmakers Rep. Jacobson and Sen. Pfaff proposed a bill that would create a three-day back-to-school tax holiday next year—removing sales tax on school supplies up to $100 and clothing up to $150 during the first August weekend. The bill aims to ease costs for working families and will reimburse lost revenue to local governments if passed. WSAW
- ➤ At the All-Stars Under the Stars event, Mayor Doug Diny swore in new military recruits as locals watched Separate Ways perform and recruiters stressed the military is open to everyday people – the ceremony also honored local veterans. The event serves as a fundraiser for the Man of Honor Society and is meant to spark more interest in military service. WAOW

- ➤ On Wednesday, Dana Roddy from the Wisconsin Potato Growers Association explained on Sunrise 7 that Mediterranean Potato flatbread made with Wisconsin potatoes is a gluten free option to replace bread and noodles.
