ECONOMY NEWS

  • Cranberries in the DuBay Cranberry Co. marshes are turning red as cooler weather sets in, and the harvest will begin at the end of the month and peak in early October — workers will use water to float the berries for easy collection.  WSAW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mid-State Technical College has launched a 27-credit Advanced Meat Cutting and Butchery diploma that gives students over 950 hours of hands-on training in meat processing, sanitation, and recipe creation—this program is open to both newcomers and experienced workers. The course will help meet Wisconsin’s growing need for trained meat processors—boosting local job opportunities and supporting the state's meat industry.  Wausau Daily Herald
  • The Wausau School District announced a search for a new School Board member after Jane Rusch resigned due to life circumstances effective Aug. 28. Applications must be submitted by 4 p.m. Sept. 25 at the Longfellow Administration Center or via email—followed by a special meeting on Sept. 29 and candidate interviews on Oct. 13 to fill the vacancy until the April 2026 election.  Wausau Daily Herald

HEALTH NEWS

  • Older adults in Marathon County will be able to lower their fall risk at two upcoming prevention fairs in Wausau on Sept. 10 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at Lake View Conference Center and in Merrill on Sept. 16 from 9:30 to noon; experts will offer screenings and advice on balance, home safety and other steps to prevent injuries—an issue that leads to many emergency visits.  Wausau Daily Herald

  • Families in Wausau spent the unofficial last day of summer boating on the lake, having picnics in parks, and playing on playgrounds. Many citizens said they cherished the warm hours of summer & are preparing for fall with cooler air and new routines.  WAOW
