COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Bridge Street Mission will open a new outreach center in Wausau at 325 North 1st Ave next week — the building already houses over 100 men in its recovery program as a larger kitchen and more seating are being added. An inspection on Friday will decide if the center opens on Monday and a ribbon-cutting is planned for Sept. 25. WSAW
- ➤ On Tuesday, many kids returned to school while Wausau police patrolled school zones—enforcing a 15 mph speed limit and school bus rules—to help keep students safe as they walked or biked. Officers also reminded drivers that fines double in school zones when the law is broken. WAOW
- ➤ Owner Gregg Albert built WJJQ over 41 years—using his wife’s pension and personal debt—to provide a familiar local voice on the air, and his son Tim now shares the work of keeping the station strong. Gregg still works part-time, reflecting his deep ties with the community. WSAW

GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Marathon County’s Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department is set to propose a 7.5% fee increase for events—up from the usual 3%—to help the county’s budget. The county board will review the proposal during the budget process, and if approved, fees will apply in 2026 but will not be officially set until 2027. WAOW
- ➤ The Marathon County Board is accepting letters of interest from candidates to fill the District 5 seat after former board member Gary Gisselman died on Aug. 10—letters must be submitted by noon Sept. 12 at the Marathon County Clerk's office at 500 Forest St. in Wausau. Wausau Daily Herald
