COMMUNITY NEWS

  • S.C. Swiderski—also known as SCS—announced its 5th annual CAS Food Drive in collaboration with 12 food pantries, collecting 3,317 food and monetary donations that were matched 1:1 to yield 6,634 contributions. The company thanked employees and neighbors for supporting the drive that helps local families facing hunger.  Wausau Times

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Fazoli's on Rib Mountain Drive closed and will sit vacant over the winter until its building is torn down—Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers will build a new restaurant there following a July site plan approval.  WSAW

CULTURE NEWS

  • WZAW debuts The Good Side, a new half hour show featuring positive news from around the country with its first episode airing on Sunday at 7 a.m.—the program shares stories of three dogs making a difference, a young boy experiencing a life changing moment, and a community in Oregon offering support.  WSAW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point at Wausau campus will move to Northcentral Technical College’s campus by fall 2026 so students can benefit from shared space and expanded high-demand programs. County officials and college leaders will meet through December to decide what to do with UWSP’s current buildings while reducing duplicate programs and positions.  Wausau Daily Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Wausau Common Council is seeking letters of interest to fill District 5 after longtime council member Gary Gisselman died in August — candidates must submit letters by Oct.7 so a replacement will be appointed on Oct.14 to serve until the term ends in April. The Marathon County Board is also accepting letters with submissions due by Sept.12 and a vote planned on Sept.18 — offering a second process to fill the seat following his long service.  Wausau Daily Herald

HEALTH NEWS

  • Screen Sanity is hosting Parent Night trainings that teach parents how to handle digital challenges like phone use and screen time for better sleep. The group brings experts—pediatricians and social workers—to share research and practical tips for families.  WSAW
  • Wausau police and fire departments host the annual Battle of the Badges blood drive today at the community room at the Public Safety Building — the event runs from noon to 5 p.m. as teams compete to collect blood donations.  WAOW

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Hunters in our area can use the DNR’s online mapping tool to find over 6 million acres of public lands plus 28,000 acres of voluntary public access lands for hunting. They should scout each site ahead of time and follow legal boundaries and firearm rules—wearing blaze orange during the season.  Wausau Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • Ironbull will host its seventh year of races around Rib Mountain State Park this weekend and offer a first aid and triage tent from the Bone & Joint Clinic to support over 200 registered racers & help with minor injuries and advice. The races start at 7 a.m. on Saturday with a kids’ race at noon while registration remains open for both events.  WSAW
