- ➤ Volunteers gathered at Northwoods National Cemetery on September 11 to clean gravestones and honor fallen military during the annual Patriot Day event— a tradition started three years ago with the nonprofit Carry the Load. One volunteer traveled from Green Bay to support the cemetery honoring those who served. WAOW
- ➤ At a Veterans Weekly Cup-of-Coffee meeting at Denny’s in Rothschild on August 13th, 2025, veteran Bill was awarded a Quilt of Valor by volunteers Marsha Otto and Marla Berg from the Quilts of Valor Foundation—an honor given to living veterans. He served during the Korean Conflict, earned the Sharpshooter Medal, and was discharged as a Corporal. Wausau Times
- ➤ The United Way of Marathon County Board of Directors has named Ben Lee as the new chief executive officer, with his role set to begin on December 1st—he will succeed Jeff Sargent who is retiring after 9 years. Lee, who previously led community programs, will drive efforts to expand services across the county. Wausau Times
- ➤ Marathon City Fire Department held its annual 9/11 silent walk on Thursday evening along Main Street— the walk climbed 110 feet to show the number of stories in the World Trade Center towers—and first responders from Marathon, Edgar, Hamburg, Athens and Maine joined to remember the victims. - ➤ Marathon County Public Library is hosting a variety of free events in September including a plant swap from September 15 to 20 in Marathon City, a yoga class on September 17 in Mosinee, and a game night and junk journal workshop on September 17 and 18 at the Wausau Headquarters. The library also offers children’s storytimes across multiple branches with some events requiring registration while others are open to all — call for details. Wausau Times

- ➤ Friends of Wausau Historic Landmarks will host a Tour de Marathon County event on Saturday, September 27th with a noon departure from the GTCC Maintenance Building after bus loading at 11:45 a.m. and will visit Ringle, Hatley, Elderon, Bevent and Mosinee before returning around 5:15 p.m. Tickets cost $50 and are available at Janke Book Store downtown. - ➤ On Sept. 1, Wisconsin began enforcing vape restrictions that limit sales to about 280 state-approved products — a federal judge upheld the law as the vaping industry appeals the decision. Wausau Daily Herald
