COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Greenheck Group will host its second annual Veteran’s Ruck March this Saturday — held on Greenheck Drive in Weston where dozens of veterans and their families will join with pet friendly options, first aid stations and medical staff on site; proceeds and food donations will go to a local veterans organization.  WAOW

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Weston village board approved a proposal to build a new Dunkin'-Baskin Robbins hybrid on the lot used by the long-standing farmers market, which will move to Kennedy Park next summer to avoid ongoing redevelopment. The board also approved additional parcels for future development and the current market will hold its final season event on October 28.  WSAW

CULTURE NEWS

  • Manawa dairy farmer Ben Buschke runs his Iola carving business using a chainsaw to turn wood into art—his busy work includes commissioned pieces like a bear for UW-Stevens Point. He began carving during COVID after years on the farm and now plans to offer classes while working with his wife Lindsay and their two kids.  WSAW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Northcentral Technical College is hosting its annual C2A2 agriculture conference today to mark 10 years of training future farmers. Students, teachers and industry leaders from across the Midwest will gather to share ideas and see modern farming technology in action on the college live farm + the event aims to shape tomorrow’s farming methods.  WAOW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Sen. Pat Testin and Assemblyman Scott Krug introduced a bill today at the Marathon County Courthouse that will let local communities input on solar projects and allow farmers to lease unused land for these developments—legislative hearings are set for November to review the proposal.  WAOW

HEALTH NEWS

  • Gov. Tony Evers signed an executive order on September 15 to protect vaccine access after federal restrictions limited updated COVID-19 shots—state agencies and insurers will work together to provide clear guidance and cover costs amid actions by vaccine skeptic Kennedy.  Wausau Daily Herald

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Tickets are on sale now for the annual Fall Chairlift Rides at Granite Peak; rides will begin September 26 and run on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Riders will take a roundtrip from the ski area to the top of Rib Mountain — where they can explore the park before riding down.  WSAW

SPORTS NEWS

  • Anglers in the Northwoods are noticing fall fishing changes as water temperatures are in the low 60s, prompting walleyes to shift from shallow areas at night to deeper waters during the day — bass, panfish, pike and musky are also adapting, so fishermen should adjust techniques by targeting different depths with jerkbaits or jigs.  Wausau Times
  • Northland Lutheran beat Pacelli 8 to 1 on Monday evening in Kronenwetter — Braydn Screnock scored a penalty kick in the first half. The team will face Tri-County on Thursday while Pacelli will meet Amherst next Monday.  WSAW
