Good morning, Wausau. Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 17th of September.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Locals from the Consolidated Musky Club in Wisconsin Rapids stocked Nepco Lake with over 500 muskies to honor the late Richard Alnes—his family donated for the stocking and the Department of Natural Resources tagged the fish so local youth and families can fish in the future.  WAOW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Records show that school lunch debts in Wisconsin have risen sharply, with unpaid balances in the Wausau School District increasing 68%—community donations later reducing the net rise to 27%. Rising food costs and recent federal changes may add more pressure on families and school funding in the coming years.  WSAW
  • Next fall, UWSP classes will be held on the NTC campus to give students a chance to earn degrees without transferring schools—this move aims to boost enrollment and create a richer campus experience. Both schools see the new partnership as a way to offer more local opportunities and a stronger educational environment.  WSAW

HEALTH NEWS

  • Doctors at Aspirus Health said adult acne is common and can be managed by using simple skincare steps with over the counter products or prescription medicines—especially when scars or painful bumps appear. They advise people to visit a dermatologist if breakouts keep happening.  WSAW
  • Wisconsin health officials made the updated COVID vaccine available for anyone 6 months and older after Gov. Evers signed an executive order, so pharmacies now offer the shot without a prescription—helping more people get vaccinated. Major insurers are expected to cover the vaccine with no cost-sharing for patients.  Wausau Daily Herald
  • Lincoln County Health Department is holding adult flu shot clinics today and every Wednesday until Nov. 19 at 607 N. Sales St., Suite 101 in Merrill from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. where both regular and high-dose vaccines are available while supplies last — no appointment is needed.  Wausau Daily Herald

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Tuesday, the Rosholt Hornets won a 3-0 conference match over Pittsville to improve to 2-0 while Pacelli beat Tri-County 3-0 in Stevens Point.
