COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, Wausau West and Wausau East host a Pink Ribbon Volley event with JV matches at 4:14 p.m. and varsity games at 7 p.m.—the event features raffles and a bake sale and raises local funds for breast cancer through K-tech Charities.  WSAW
  • Marathon County Public Library at 300 N. First St. invites children 18 and under to name its life-sized Triceratops replica; kids may submit suggestions until Oct. 25 and vote on top names Nov. 1—15, with the winning entry earning a dinosaur-themed prize.  Wausau Daily Herald

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Wisconsin Board of Regents is reviewing a proposed policy to let core general education credits transfer among all 13 schools—if approved, the policy will begin for students enrolling in fall 2026 to lower costs and shorten graduation time. The plan comes from the new provisions in the 2025-27 state budget.  WSAW
  • Mid-State Technical College’s nursing program was named the top RN program for 2026 by RegisteredNursing.org after it achieved a 100% NCLEX pass rate in 2024, compared to a national average of 91.2%. The program also offers affordable tuition and hands-on clinical training at advanced simulation centers—ensuring students gain real-world experience.  Wausau Daily Herald

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Starting Sept. 26, the Good News Project in Wausau will offer rechargeable battery recycling every Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1106 N. Fifth St.—a service funded by a grant from the Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin that aims to keep hazardous materials out of landfills.  Wausau Daily Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Stanley native Jessi Ebben announced her bid for the 7th Congressional District seat to replace Rep. Tom Tiffany. Ebben—who ran in the 3rd Congressional District primary in 2020—brings healthcare, manufacturing, and farm roots to serve voters across 26 counties.  WSAW
  • The USPS sorting and delivery center in Rothschild is upgrading its facility with a fleet of electric vehicles and improved equipment — including a next-generation delivery vehicle and an upgraded sorting machine — as part of a nationwide ten-year, $40 billion plan. Postmaster Scott Mayer said the changes aim to boost productivity and morale among employees in the long-serving building.  WSAW
