COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Marathon County Crime Stoppers will host a fundraiser this weekend at the Central Wisconsin Expo Center—timing it so that doors open at 6 p.m. and Tim Gleason performs his Eric Church tribute at 7 p.m.  WSAW
  • Marathon County Social Services and CASA are co-hosting CASA and Foster Care Info Night on October 2 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the historic Everest Mansion— a local landmark rarely open to the public— to help residents learn about volunteering as a CASA or becoming a foster parent. Attendees will enjoy free food, drinks, and tours; an RSVP is required.  Wausau Times
  • Bridge Street Ministry held a ribbon-cutting ceremony yesterday at 4 p.m. at its expanded Outreach Center in Wausau—open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.—where it now serves food for up to 120 guests. The event honored Men’s Recovery Center graduates and announced progress on the On Track Campaign with plans to add a Women’s Recovery Center in spring.  WSAW

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Four Seasons Golf of Wausau will reopen at its new site at 880 Eagle Nest Blvd in Rib Mountain by mid-January, offering indoor simulators and 20 covered outdoor bays for use in both summer and winter. Owner Shane Saari said the facility will use TopTracer technology — a change that lets golfers play all year.  Wausau Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today at 7 p.m., the Grand Theater hosts a free show by the CenterStage Band and Show Choir—playing songs by The Beatles, David Bowie, and Andrew Lloyd Webber. Free tickets are offered at the door for shows tonight and tomorrow.  WAOW
  • The 2025 Central Wisconsin Book Festival runs from September 25 to September 27 with free events scheduled in Wausau, Stevens Point and Wisconsin Rapids, and a bonus session on October 4. The festival—organized by local libraries and volunteers—features bestselling authors, creative workshops and book signings for community members.  Wausau Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, Northcentral Technical College is opening its Community Safety Simulation Center — a new facility that trains hospital, school, and faith group workers in real-life emergency scenarios by replicating actual building layouts. Area organizations have already shown strong interest and will soon evaluate updated safety practices after training.  WSAW
  • Marathon County Public Library offers free story times in October for children and their caregivers at several branches including Wausau, Athens, Edgar, and others - with programs that feature interactive readings, songs, crafts, and themed events. The events are held on set dates and times and require no registration.  Wausau Times
  • At Fustead Farms, hundreds of elementary and high school students learn why farming is important as D.C. Everest FFA students teach lessons on dairy operations, horses, and other farm stations—bridging the gap between food producers and consumers. Teacher John Glynn and FFA President Emma Kessler lead the program to help fourth graders understand where their food comes from.  WSAW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Domtar Paper Company held a presentation on the Rothschild Dam Modernization Project on Sept. 25 with community members and Wisconsin Congressmen—explaining that the $84m project will replace the dam's timber section with concrete and add new control gates. Phase one began in mid-September and local roads may see construction traffic as work continues until early next spring.  WSAW

  • Central Wisconsin home buyers face rising prices up to 13% and a limited number of available homes—fostering intense bidding wars in the market.  Wausau Daily Herald

SPORTS NEWS

  • Local bus driver Bob Rucinski saved a junior varsity football game two weeks ago by volunteering to drive an extra hour each way when the team nearly lost its ride—his quick action earned praise from the athletic director.  WAOW
  • Wausau West hosted the annual Pink Game by decorating the school in pink with streamers and custom jerseys. Families and students filled the stands to support local breast cancer efforts—Wausau West defeated cross-city rival Wausau East 3-1.  WSAW
