- ➤ Seven weekend events across Wisconsin offer a range of fall fun from pumpkin fests to pet contests and a comedy show by Adam Sandler—each event either took place on Friday, is happening today, or will occur on Sunday. In Wausau, Harvest Fest runs today from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. WSAW
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Students from John Muir and Horace Mann Middle Schools learned what it takes to write a book Friday when authors Ruta Sepetys and Steve Sheinkin visited the schools—explaining how they created their book The Bletchley Riddle and the teamwork needed for writing. WSAW
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Friday morning, members of the Democracy Defense Project and state representatives met at UW-Stevens Point at Wausau to discuss election security—highlighting long ballot count times and a need for public trust. Lawmakers introduced competing reform bills that aim to boost vote accessibility and speed up ballot processing before the November election. WAOW
- ➤ Kronenwetter’s village board unanimously chose James Davel as the new village administrator after years of turnover following longtime administrator Richard Downey’s departure in 2022. Davel will begin his role on Nov. 3 — he brings 30 years of U.S. Army experience to help lead the community. Wausau Daily Herald
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Wausau Fire Department is wearing special pink shirts this Breast Cancer Awareness Month to help raise funds for local aid—half of the $20 sale goes toward production and the rest is donated to those in need. The shirts, which show a pink Firefighters Labor Union logo and a design with an American flag and a fire hose ribbon, are sold at the Central Fire Station every day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. while supplies last.
