COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Bridge Street Mission's Executive Director Craig Vincent is hosting a 24-hour livestream event called Conversations on a Bench at St. John the Baptist Church—inviting locals to share their thoughts on homelessness as the event began at 2 p.m. today and will run until 2 p.m. tomorrow. WAOW
- ➤ Women United, an affinity group of United Way of Marathon County, is accepting grant applications from local non-profits that work to lift women and families to financial stability; applications are due October 31. Funds raised at the annual Power of the Purse auction support these grants—last year eight county programs received funding. WAOW
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Laura Strek got the 40th ATHENA Leadership Award—an honor for strong leadership and service—at the Chamber of Commerce’s first Business Leadership Awards Night on Oct 9 at The Grand Theater in downtown Wausau. WAOW
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Students from D.C. Everest visited Greenheck Group as part of CWIMA's Heavy Metal Tours and learned about welding, 3D printing, and other local manufacturing methods that may shape their career choices; school and company officials said manufacturing jobs make up one in four positions in Marathon County. WAOW
- ➤ The offer to buy Grant Elementary School fell through so the property at 500 N. 4th Avenue is back on the market—Wausau School District works with local broker Tim Wimmer and the school board will decide the sale. The school closed earlier this year as part of a district consolidation. WSAW
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Weston village is asking residents and visitors for opinions on its Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan — a survey funded by a Wisconsin DOT grant is open until the end of the month — to guide network changes. The village will host an open house — scheduled for November 6 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. — as it works to finalize the plan by June next year. WSAW

9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. — Northcentral Technical College — $90 registration fee — Spend a day with expert instructors crafting quilting projects and learning new techniques in a collaborative environment.
