- ➤ Mountain Bay Metro Police will host its 2nd annual Monster Bash on Friday evening at DC Everest Middle School, 9302 Schofield Ave in Weston — the free event will feature bounce houses, trunk or treat, music, and food from the Everest Optimist food truck while the first 150 adults receive a goodie bag and donations are accepted for Peyton’s Promise. - ➤ The Neighbors’ Place is hosting two events to fight food insecurity in central Wisconsin. The 17th Empty Bowls Community Event is from noon until 4 p.m. on Sunday at Granite Peak’s Sundance Chalet with donated soups and dishes, and the Empty Bowls dinner is on October 18 at 6 p.m. at Tebo & Tilly with $200 tickets that fund its free food market. - ➤ Ten women from central Wisconsin will compete for the Miss Wausau Area 2026 and Teen title on November 1 at the UW Center for Civic Engagement starting at 4:00 p.m. The pageant—directed by Jenny Stanke, mother of Miss America 2023—will award over $6,000 in scholarships and sell $15 cash tickets at the door while serving as a preliminary for statewide competitions. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported that Midwest gas prices last week were essentially unchanged, with regular fuel averaging $2.93 per gallon—about 6.1% lower than the national average of $3.12. Prices fell 16 cents from last month and were 5% higher a year ago, showing a recent downward trend in the region. Wausau Daily Herald

- ➤ Local organizations gathered at NorthStar Restoration Services for active threat preparedness training led by Wausau PD’s Officer Eric Lemirand, who explained how to spot threats and keep people safe (attendees learned safe hiding methods and saw technology from Window Enhancements LLC). WAOW
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ On Friday, the Women’s Health & Imaging Center in Weston held a ribbon-cutting to launch Contrast Enhanced Mammography—an exam that uses iodine dye to show cancer in dense breast tissue. The center said the test takes about 10 minutes and is the first of its kind in Wisconsin. WSAW
