- ➤ Witter's Dairy Farm celebrated 150 years of family tradition in Wausau as it marked a milestone that started in 1875 when George Washington Witter was gifted 80 acres for his Civil War service & became Marathon County's first dairy delivery service. The farm, now run by five generations, also grows seasonal produce and builds new community connections. WAOW
- ➤ United Way of Marathon County released its Holiday Get Help and Give Help Guide to help residents plan for holiday assistance and volunteer opportunities. The guide lists locations for toy gifts, meals and food pantries—plus it advises people to call 211 for updated help if needed. WSAW
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ ALDI is offering a Thanksgiving meal package for 10 people at $40 that includes a 14-pound turkey and ingredients for nine sides—shoppers can buy the 21 required items individually through December 24. WSAW
- ➤ Construction is underway to renovate a historic downtown building for Eesa Bakery, which will open next year at 201 Forest — the building was built in 1947 and once housed Wausau Electric and Battery. WSAW
- ➤ Sourdough & Co. will open its new restaurant on November 17 at 601 Forest St. in Wausau—replacing the former Subway and marking its first Midwest location. WSAW
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ A non-profit in Wausau is celebrating Hispanic culture this Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Central Wisconsin Convention & Expo Center in Rothschild—offering food from vendors, activities for children, live music and folkloric dancing from Nicaragua and Mexico. WSAW
- ➤ Starting October 25 at the Central Wisconsin Convention and Expo Center in Rothschild, the Indian Society of Central Wisconsin will host a Diwali Festival — the event will offer a fully catered Indian dinner, choreographed dance performances, a fashion show and a Bollywood dancing tutorial for all ages. WSAW
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A bill to ban non-educational cell phone use in schools passed the Senate Tuesday and is headed to Governor Tony Evers—if signed, school boards must update policies to require putting phones away during learning time. WSAW
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The 2025 elk hunting season will open tomorrow, Oct. 18, with antlerless opportunities in the Black River and an eight-bull quota in Clam Lake after a strong winter and spring season. The DNR randomly selected 13 hunters from over 26,000 applicants, and Ojibwe tribes have rights to four of the Clam Lake bulls (state hunters received the rest). WSAW

- ➤ Marathon County Sheriff's Office Deputy Abbie Schroeder was named First Responder of the Year for the 86th Assembly District for her work helping law enforcement and prosecutors work together and for creating an enhanced domestic violence packet—Rep. John Spiros announced her award on Oct. 14. Wausau Daily Herald

- ➤ The Community Blood Center in Wausau called for blood donors after its O positive supply fell to a two-day level and its O negative dropped to less than a two-day level on October 15—levels that do not meet patient needs—John Hagins said. WSAW
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Marshfield beat Wausau West 3—1 in a volleyball tune-up ahead of the postseason, and McDonell captured the Cloverbelt crown with a 3—0 win over Columbus Catholic. In football, Neillsville/Granton ended their season with a 42—7 loss to Regis. WSAW
