- ➤ Wausau Events will host the Boos and Booze event on Friday, October 24 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Central Wisconsin Convention and Expo Center, featuring a costume contest, spooky music and beverages from over 12 breweries—tickets include appetizers, drink samples and entry to an after party at Bantr. - ➤ Wausau East and West volleyball programs hosted the annual Pink Ribbon Volley at Wausau West High School on Sept. 25—raising over $12,000 to help local residents battling breast cancer as proceeds went to K-tech Charities. Wausau Daily Herald

- ➤ The Wisconsin DNR urged ATV+UTV riders to wear helmets and seatbelts after recording 38 accidents this year with over 70% of the cases involving riders not using proper safety gear and officials warning that alcohol use and failure to take safety courses increase risks. WSAW

- ➤ Teresa Villareal and her daughter Carolina Jirón opened Nina’s Grocery at 210 S 1st Avenue three weeks ago—mixing Nicaraguan and Mexican food in a grocery store and restaurant. They launched the venture to add diverse food options in central Wisconsin after noting few local choices. WSAW
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Five fourth graders at John Marshall Elementary will serve coffee, smoothies, and treats to teachers every Friday — a program that builds math and teamwork skills — as they work the Panther Brew Crew. The program uses local coffee and a Wausau School Foundation grant — which provided a coffee maker and smoothie machine — to boost student confidence and leadership. WSAW
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Evers met with community members in Wausau today and urged lawmakers to resolve the federal shutdown to protect health care access and tax credits for working families—over 540,000 kids on Badger Care face potential cuts—and warned that inaction will worsen the state's health challenges. - ➤ Sen. Baldwin warned that if ACA premium tax credits end during a government shutdown, Wisconsin farmers already facing high tariffs and rising input costs will see health care premiums increase—farmers may pay up to $4,000 more a year—adding serious strain to rural families. Wausau Daily Herald
