- ➤ Two Wausau Girl Scouts launched a Silver Award project to raise funds for bed shakers that help hearing-impaired students in the district hear smoke alarms. The project has received $4,000 from local donors—enough for 10 devices—and now needs $6,400 to supply shakers for 26 students. WSAW
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Wisconsin DNR is optimistic about this year's harvest as the nine-day gun deer season nears, though a later opening may reduce deer movement after the peak rut (spokesperson Jeff Pritzl said). Hunters can join the Deer Donation Program to help stock local food pantries. WSAW
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Kronenwetter officials urged residents to stop flushing disposable wipes after a pump at Lift Station 3 was pulled and unclogged on Sunday night—wipes that do not break down and cause blockages in the system. The village noted this is the third incident since September—warning that even flushable wipes can damage sewer equipment and lead to costly repairs. WSAW

- ➤ Aspirus warns that counterfeit pills containing fentanyl can be deadly if taken without a trusted prescription. Pharmacy resident Tyler Thao explained that one pill can kill and advised keeping naloxone close—medications must be used only as prescribed. WSAW
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Granite Peak Ski Resort is preparing to start artificial snowmaking once temperatures near 28 degrees for safe operation. The resort uses water from Big Rib River and 12 staff per shift to run nearly 500 snow guns—ski slopes may open by Thanksgiving. WSAW
