COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Riverside Fire District received a box of historical items donated by the family of former firefighter Ardean Kort, known as Butch, who served from 1954 to 1963. The box holds newspaper articles, scrapbooks and detailed logs — showing how firefighting has changed, and the department will create a collage to honor his legacy. WSAW
- ➤ The Open Door received 60 pounds of winter clothing from the Packers as part of their Give Back program to aid people released from incarceration and the homeless in Wausau—this clothing will be given to those in need while the organization still requests winter gloves and thermals. WSAW
- ➤ Jamaican siblings living in Wausau are leading a relief drive for hurricane Melissa victims and gathering donations from local businesses—Janice Watson will travel to Jamaica next week with supplies while her brother, Rayon Edwards, will follow later. Donations include food, hygiene products, baby items and money to help rebuild roofs and repair storm damage. WSAW

- ➤ Former WSAW/WZAW vice president and general manager Al Lancaster has been honored as a Wisconsin Silver Circle inductee—an award recognizing over 25 years of service in Wisconsin broadcasting. He retired in 2023 and his induction ceremony will be held in February 2026 in Milwaukee. WSAW
- ➤ Wausau Community Theatre will perform Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street at the James F. Veninga Theater from November 7 to 9. The dark musical (with shows on Friday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and Sunday at 2:00 p.m.) will bring eerie suspense and memorable tunes to local audiences. WAOW
- ➤ Discover Wisconsin will air a documentary on Monday, November 10th on WAOW that honors the 29 men who died when the Edmund Fitzgerald sank in 1975 and marked a key moment in the Midwest economy—featuring local voices to keep this history alive. WAOW
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Workers completed the largest rebuild on DuBay Dam since it was built in 1942 to improve its safety and extend its lifespan — a project led by a 10-person team that replaced old operator deck parts and supports Lake DuBay's 7,000 acres of recreation. WAOW

- ➤ The WIAA state high school volleyball tournament kicked off Wednesday at the Resch Center in Ashwaubenon — the SPASH Panthers made their first girls tournament appearance since 1986 after beating River Falls on November 1. WSAW
