- ➤ The annual Very Merrill Christmas Parade is scheduled for December 6 and will start at 5 p.m. at S. Genesee and W. Main, ending at the courthouse where a tree lighting will follow—registration is open until November 26 for groups to join with holiday-themed illuminated entries. WSAW
- ➤ CoVantage Cares Foundation launches its 10th annual Giving Tuesday campaign on Dec. 2 to support Good News Project programs that provide medical equipment and mobile services to rural residents. The campaign runs through Dec. 16 with every donation matched up to $200,000 at local branches and online via the MyCoVantage app—emphasizing community care. Wausau Daily Herald
- ➤ Special education teacher Rob Hughes of NTC Alternative High School has organized his Food for Hope turkey drive for 10 years to help local families have a full Thanksgiving meal in Marathon County. The program—working with 28 schools and five nonprofits—will pick up 1,000 turkeys and hams on Nov. 20 and has raised $20,000 of its $23,000 goal so far. WSAW
- ➤ Marathon County Literacy will collect children’s letters to Santa until Dec. 15 — kids can drop off their letters at set locations in Wausau or complete them at home to receive a personalized reply from Santa. WSAW
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ The U.S. Mint stopped making the penny on November 13 because it cost nearly four cents to produce each coin. Brian Kruse of Liberty Bell Coin Investments said collectors may face uncertainty as banks continue to distribute remaining pennies for transactions rounded to the nearest nickel + his comments note the coin's long history of design changes. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Good News Project will hold an electronics recycling event on Nov. 15 at its warehouse at 1106 N. Fifth St. from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. as part of America Recycles Day to recycle TVs, computers, rechargeable batteries and other items while proceeds support a Health Equipment Lending Program—helping reduce e-waste and provide medical equipment to families. - ➤ Wisconsinites saw a rare display of the northern lights on Nov. 11 and 12 when strong geomagnetic storms lit up the sky, and they can track forecasts using the Space Weather Prediction Center's viewline and short-term tools to monitor future activity. The tools help locals know the best times—between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m.—and spots away from city lights to catch the display. Wausau Daily Herald

- ➤ Drivers in Wausau will face changes on Bridge Street next week—eastbound traffic on the Bridge Street Bridge will use only the outside lane starting Monday, November 17, with work finishing in one week. WSAW

- ➤ Several Aspirus Health hospitals earned 2025 Get With The Guidelines—Stroke awards from the American Heart Association for following lifesaving stroke treatment guidelines.
