- ➤ CoVantage Cares Foundation will start its 10th annual Giving Tuesday campaign on December 2 and run it until December 16 — every donation will be matched up to $200,000 — to help local nonprofits meet needs in education, health and housing in Wisconsin, Illinois and Michigan. The campaign has raised over $3.3 million in the past decade to support groups that serve our communities. Wausau Times
- ➤ On Tuesday evening, Good News Project thanked donors who helped exceed its $950,000 goal by raising an extra $40,000 and expanding its warehouse to store more durable medical supplies—this larger space now helps over 220 families each month with health needs in central Wisconsin and the Caribbean. - ➤ On November 17, fourth-grade students at D.C. Everest Riverside Elementary watched Sarah Hagenow cut down Wisconsin’s first official Christmas tree of 2025 at Newby’s Evergreen Farm near Wausau. - ➤ Tribal leaders from the Lac du Flambeau Business Development Corporation celebrated the opening of the first tribally owned Popeyes in Minocqua with a prayer — the event featured a drum performance by Tomahawk Circle and remarks on boosting the Tribe's economic future and creating local jobs. - ➤ The South Wood County Historical Museum is hosting its Ninth Annual Christmas Tree Walk from December 6 to 14 with displays from local groups and Christmas Story Time on weekends at 2 p.m.—the event is free and donations support the museum and new accessibility improvements. WAOW
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Marathon County Public Library in Wausau will host a free Write Night event on Nov. 25 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.—adults and teens of all writing levels can use dice, prompts and other materials to work on their stories at the library headquarters. Wausau Daily Herald
- ➤ D.C. Everest Senior High students won the regional Finance and Investment Bowl on Nov. 6 at Northcentral Technical College and took three of the top four spots + the champion team of Keagan Carlson, Brandon Leader and Myles Zirbel qualified for the state finals in May, earning their 11th title in 17 years. - ➤ Wausau West High School sophomore Jimmy Peck earned Eagle Scout by improving the School Forest with new outdoor activities such as bean bag toss + ladder golf, a painted court, and a portable basketball hoop. He managed the project with 116 volunteer hours and a cost just over $900 to boost the forest's use for students and visitors. Wausau Daily Herald
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Evers and WisDOT announced $14 million in federal funds for 26 EV charging station projects—four of these projects are in central and north central Wisconsin at sites such as Kwik Trip and Travelodge by Wyndham—and the funding follows earlier awards to improve infrastructure along the Alternative Fuel Corridor. - ➤ Wausau local Allison Honkanen built a unique treehouse retreat in Crandon using a year and two months of weekend work with a small team—designed with two bedrooms and a sleeping loft to let guests enjoy nature.
