- ➤ Mount View Care Center residents turned over 3,500 plastic bags into sleeping mats for the homeless in Wausau. One resident crocheted the mats by hand with added straps for easier carrying while Catholic Charities received them for distribution. WAOW
- ➤ Wausau teacher Rob Hughes raised $23,000 for the local turkey drive by connecting with volunteers and partnering with Lamb’s Fresh Market—he was inspired by a childhood act of kindness that shaped his commitment to the community. His efforts with students helped ensure local families will have a meal this Thanksgiving. WAOW
- ➤ The annual Festival of Trees fundraiser will take place at the Central Wisconsin Expo Center in Rothschild and will benefit Aspirus Family House and Hospice House, helping fund essential services for patients. The event will kick off Tuesday, Nov. 25 with a gala and will run until Sunday, Nov. 30 with raffles, Santa visits, and special holiday activities. WSAW

- ➤ Hy-Vee in Wausau reopened on Tuesday and sold a $7.1 million Megabucks ticket on its third day open—this win is the fourth largest jackpot since 2017 and adds to local lottery success in 2025. WAOW
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Grace Vanderhei, a 2023 nuclear engineering graduate and Miss America 2023 from Wausau, will speak as the keynote at UW-Madison's winter commencement on Dec. 14 at 10 a.m. at the Kohl Center—she will share her experiences from Madison and the support of its community. WSAW
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The 9-day gun deer season starts Saturday at Rib Mountain State Park, where hunters with blaze orange may be near hikers who are advised to wear bright clothing for safety. DNR officials also urge non-hunters to whistle or talk loudly if they suspect a nearby hunter—helping to prevent accidents. WSAW
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Aspirus Health and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield reached a new multi-year deal—giving Anthem members in-network access to Aspirus facilities and doctors statewide. The agreement, announced on Nov. 19, covers employer-based, individual, Medicare Advantage and Medicaid plans. Wausau Daily Herald
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Edgar Wildcats lost in the D6 state title game to Darlington 42—18 on Thursday, marking their third straight season at state and seventh time as runners-up. Darlington built an early lead and maintained it throughout the game. WSAW
- ➤ Granite Peak Ski Area in Wausau will open its winter season from 2025 to 2026 on November 28 with lifts, runs and a terrain park designed for families. Midwest Family Ski Resorts will also open two other resorts this season with early snowmaking and fast lifts—visitors can take advantage of special deals on lift tickets and lodging. WAOW
