COMMUNITY NEWS

  • About 2,400 people gathered in downtown Wausau Thursday morning for the 16th annual Turkey Trot — a charity race that raised funds for United Way’s mobile food programs. The funds will support the farm to family produce project, though United Way still needed $1,500 to reach its goal.  WSAW
  • First Presbyterian Church in Wausau hosted its 56th annual 'Friends Thanksgiving' meal—serving over 1,200 guests with free home-cooked dinners and offering delivery for those who preferred to eat at home—thanks to hundreds of dedicated volunteers who prepared the event.  WSAW

CULTURE NEWS

  • Central Wisconsin Children's Theatre is presenting Madagascar, A Musical Adventure, Junior at the University of Wisconsin's Center for Civic Engagement in Wausau with over 60 young performers in two shows today and two on Saturday at ticket prices of $15 for adults and $13 for kids and seniors. Director Cindy Strobel said the production continues the group's post-Thanksgiving tradition and gives children from age 5 to high school a chance to shine (enhancing local cultural opportunities).  WAOW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Junior Achievement of Wisconsin’s Northcentral Region is offering five $1,500 scholarships to Marathon County high school seniors who took part in a JA program or led two JA elementary programs. Parents, teachers, and counselors are urged to help students apply by March 31 (applications need a short essay, resume, and two letters of recommendation).  Wausau Daily Herald

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • First Alert Weather Days are in effect for Saturday and Sunday as moderate to heavy snow is expected to develop Saturday afternoon and continue into early Sunday. Wausau is forecast to receive between 1 and 3 inches of snow with blowing and drifting affecting travel—communities further south may see higher totals.  WSAW

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Thanksgiving Day, the Packers went to Detroit to play the Lions at 1 p.m. on FOX/WZAW; the game mattered for playoff hopes and BetMGM favored the Lions by 3 — this was the 23rd holiday meeting between the two teams with the Packers holding a series lead.  WSAW
