- ➤ Man of Honor Society will give free hams to veterans and active military members on Saturday, December 6 at 9 a.m. at Northcentral Technical College in Wausau+ veterans must show a DD Form 214, military ID+ or VA ID card to receive their ham. WSAW

- ➤ Yuengling Brewing Company announced it will distribute its beer in Wisconsin in 2026 — fans have long asked for the drink as the company expands its reach to Iowa. WAOW
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Students at Pittsville Elementary School are shopping for Christmas gifts from Monday to Friday in an annual event that offers items from 25 cents to $2 — volunteers wrap purchases and funds raised will go to local food pantries to aid those in need. WSAW
- ➤ Enrollment is open for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library of Marathon County—parents can register children ages 0 to 4.5 online or at nine library branches, and free, age-appropriate books will be mailed about eight to 10 weeks after registration, starting with The Little Engine That Could. Bilingual and Braille options are also available. WSAW
- ➤ On Nov. 19, the Wausau School District held the Friends of Education Awards at the School Forest and honored five volunteers and one group for their work with classrooms and field trips. Nominees Jeff and Janet Gosch, Melissa Peterson, Joann Grandma Jo Graewin, Daniel Schneider and Blessings in a Backpack were recognized for their contributions — including support in programs and efforts to feed students in need. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Preliminary figures from the Wisconsin DNR showed that 790,044 deer hunting licenses were sold during the 9-day season—a slight 0.12% drop from last year. The gun season harvested 182,084 deer, down 0.8%, while bow and crossbow totals registered a 1.1% increase compared to the previous season. WSAW
- ➤ The 2025 gun deer season ended recently with over 182,000 deer counted in its nine-day span—antlered deer dropped 2.6% while antlerless deer grew 0.9% after a zone change, a DNR expert said. WAOW
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Lawmakers passed a bill that secures over $40 million to help Domtar repair the Rothschild Dam and upgrade its paper mills+ the measure is expected to save 700 jobs and boost the local economy. WAOW
- ➤ Marathon County is weighing repair options for Marathon Park’s two ice rinks that are in use for four to five months a year but need major fixes—changes include roof, refrigeration, and other updates. The County Committee will meet on December 18 to decide whether to invest between $7 million and $54 million to improve the rinks and possibly make one a year-round facility. WSAW
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Heavy snowfall has allowed the Sno Bandits Snowmobile Club to groom 35 miles of trails early in Rome for winter sports. The trails will open for riders who register for a trail pass once the muzzleloader hunting season ends on Dec. 10—boosting local business. WSAW
- ➤ On Tuesday, high school hockey saw Central Wisconsin Storm defeat Wisconsin Valley Union 2-0 with Taylor Simonson in goal, while Wausau West edged Marshfield 8-1 with Owen Pergolski scoring a hat trick. In girls basketball, Auburndale won a 52-32 conference game against Newman in Wausau—upcoming games for both sports teams are scheduled later this week. WSAW
