COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Mosinee Branch library invites residents to join a free escape room challenge, Escape the Library, for ages 6+ during Dec. 16-23. Families must register by calling 715-693-2144 to select a time slot at 123 Main St.  Wausau Daily Herald
  • Cyclones to host annual Teddy Bear Toss with Culver's on Friday, Dec. 12 at 7:10 p.m., with fans bringing stuffed animals tossed on the ice after the first goal to benefit local children via the Salvation Army of Wausau. Special teddy bear-themed jerseys are available by online auction.  WAOW
  • NewsChannel 7 will collect non-perishable food and cash donations during Friday's Wausau Holiday Parade as part of the Share Your Holidays campaign to support local food pantries like The Neighbors’ Place. Donations may be dropped off at 1114 Grand Avenue.  WSAW

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Local game developer Cantero, known for work on hit projects, will release his game High Fructose—a first-person take on Fruit Ninja—on Dec. 8. He invites community members to compete for gold+silver+bronze statues by topping the in-game leaderboard.  WAOW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Enrollment is open for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library in Marathon County, offering free books for children ages 0 to 4.5 with registration available online and at nine local library branches. Families will receive a monthly book starting with The Little Engine That Could, with options for bilingual and braille editions.  WAOW

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Portage County Solid Waste Department has added six new drop-off sites for recycling holiday lights at Fleet Farm and Metro Markets across the county through Jan. 31. Officials said the program collected 1,800 lbs. of lights last year and expect more to be recycled this season + metals to be reused.  WSAW

HEALTH NEWS

  • Marathon County Health Department and local partners launched a suicide prevention training in Hmong today to help community members identify mental health warning signs. Adapted for cultural nuances (like less direct questions), QPR training materials use the White Hmong dialect and are available for certified trainers nationwide.  WSAW
