- ➤ The Wausau Area Food for Hope Turkey Drive raised $23K to provide 1,300 hams and turkeys for families this Thanksgiving. Led by Rob Hughes at NTC Alternative High School, the drive concluded on Nov. 20 at Lamb’s Fresh Market in Rib Mountain, with local donors + volunteers making it possible. Wausau Daily Herald
- ➤ Red Eye Brewing is partnering with NewsChannel 7 to support the Share Your Holidays campaign throughout December. The restaurant will donate sales from its beet canape and Mac Attack pizza and offer a $1 discount on food or a beer for each food drive donation. WSAW
- ➤ Local law enforcement advises residents to install security cameras and adjust delivery times to prevent porch piracy this holiday season. Wausau residents can also use secure pickup sites and mail holds to keep packages safe. WSAW
- ➤ Mount View Care Center residents have repurposed 3,500 plastic bags into sleeping mats for the homeless. The mats were donated today to Catholic Charities for distribution among those in need. Wausau Daily Herald
- ➤ As extreme cold grips the city, shelters in Wausau implemented emergency plans to help the unhoused—Good Shepherd Shelter at 360 Grand Avenue expanded capacity from 7 p.m. Wednesday until 8 a.m. Thursday while other centers offered daytime warming. WSAW
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library now serves Wausau at Marathon County Library—offering free books for children from birth to age 5. The library will run fundraisers and promote enrollment to cover book and postage costs. WAOW
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ A Wausau native, Andy Brandt, will lead the U.S. hockey team as head coach in the upcoming World Junior Challenge in Canada where the team first faces Canada East on Sunday. He served as assistant coach when the team won gold last year. WSAW
