COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Do Good Wisconsin launched its Snow Angel Program to help neighbors ask for assistance with shoveling snow in Wausau and nearby areas. Over one-thousand signs have been requested, and the group plans to use social media to connect volunteers as funding allows. WAOW
- ➤ U.S. Cellular donated $1,500 in new toys and supplies to Gigi’s Playhouse at 3910 Schofield Ave. in Weston to support educational and therapeutic programs for children with Down syndrome. WSAW
- ➤ The Portage County Tavern League (PLOVER) donated $10,000 to 10 local organizations to help continue essential services amid tough times. Leaders said the support benefited veterans, families, and crisis centers and may start a recurring community tradition. WAOW
- ➤ During its fourth annual Week of Giving from Dec. 1-5, TDS Telecommunications donated $1,200 to Peyton’s Promise in Wausau for food and supplies as part of a broader effort exceeding $45,000 for local organizations. - ➤ The Konkol family in Wisconsin Rapids has held its 17-year Christmas light show to raise money for families in need, with donations this year supporting baby Oliviah King (born prematurely with spina bifida). The display runs daily from 5-10 p.m. until Jan. 4. WSAW

- ➤ A&W will open its new restaurant on Dec. 15 at 2719 Stewart Avenue at the former 199 Ride auto sales building that had been vacant. The new site marks the brand’s return to Wausau after it was last seen on the north side. WSAW

- ➤ Mid-State Technical College named Angel Laidlaw as its 2025 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient today at 4:06 a.m. CT. Laidlaw (CEO of Centergy) was honored for her leadership and community impact. Wausau Daily Herald
- ➤ Ellie Mason, an 8th-grade student from John Muir Middle School, spoke today at the Capitol holiday tree lighting in Madison alongside Gov. Evers and highlighted the support her school provides. She explained that each branch, including teachers, staff and mentors, helps students climb higher. Wausau Daily Herald

- ➤ A winning Mega Bucks ticket worth $7.1M purchased Nov. 19 at Hy-Vee in Wausau remains unclaimed as the buyer has not come forward. WSAW
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A hiring event for crossing guards was held Tuesday at 4 p.m. at the Best Western Plus Wausau Tower Inn to fill 18 positions with flexible one-hour morning and evening shifts (applicants must bring two forms of ID and be at least 18). WSAW
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Aspirus Wausau Hospital has opened a new dual helipad next to the emergency department to enable faster air transfers for trauma, cardiac, and stroke patients. The upgraded facility meets growing medevac demand and improves safety with features such as a heated snow-melt system. WSAW
- ➤ The CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices revised the hepatitis B vaccine guidelines for newborns, and local experts at Sanford Health and Marshfield Clinic stress that early vaccination can help prevent serious liver issues. Parents should speak with their doctor to plan the best vaccination schedule. WSAW
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Wausau/Marathon County Parks is preparing Sylvan Hill for winter sports by using snow guns to ready one tubing hill for opening on Dec. 13. The department is working quickly to complete the site as planned (weather has been ideal for snowmaking). WSAW
