COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Salvation Army needs community volunteers for two-hour bell-ringing shifts daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. until Dec. 24 (it is $15,000 short of a $100,000 goal) to help support its vital programs.  WSAW
  • Braxtyn Cyborowski (13) from Medford donates pajamas, blankets, books, and snacks to Marshfield Children's Hospital NICU, continuing a four-year tradition inspired by a second-grade project and supported by community fundraisers.  WAOW
  • The Wausau Fire Department is continuing its annual Keep the Wreath Green initiative to remind residents to stay alert for fire hazards during the holiday season - the campaign has kept its lights green since Thanksgiving and will conclude on New Year’s Day.  WSAW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Wisconsin will keep its FoodShare program as is in 2026 while 18 other states, including Texas, Iowa and Indiana, add limits on SNAP benefits for non-nutritional purchases; over 350,000 residents rely on a monthly allotment averaging just over $300.  WSAW

SPORTS NEWS

  • Wausau’s 525 snowmobile race returns in January as crews work to create 14 inches of ice on the course using 3,500 gallons of water and 500 truck passes (organizers said). A vintage race begins on Jan. 3, with the championship on Jan. 24-25 and future events planned for riders.  WSAW
