COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Wausau Eagles Club will offer a free drive-up Christmas meal on Christmas Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The meal includes ham, mashed potatoes, gravy, and vegetables and is limited to four meals per vehicle at 1703 S. 3rd Ave. WSAW
- ➤ Children's Imaginarium has received a sustainability education grant from the Green Bay Packers Foundation to build a new learning space where local children can learn about recycling — the nonprofit is ordering supplies and expects the setup to be complete in a few months. WAOW
- ➤ Marshfield Clinic has awarded nearly $180K to 19 local agencies fighting food insecurity, including programs in Athens and at Huey's Hideaway Children's Museum. The funds will help upgrade the Athens pantry's space (with new cold storage planned for early March) and expand the museum's gardening program for Central Wisconsin communities. WAOW

- ➤ Evolutions in Design is still taking holiday orders & delivering within Wausau with just three days until Christmas; the shop is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and until noon on Christmas Eve for in-store pickups. WSAW
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Rocket, the therapy dog at a local nursing home, inspires a new children’s book releasing later this month. Author Dennis Erickson said Rocket brings joy to residents (including non-verbal ones) and hopes the story teaches kids about unconditional love. WAOW
- ➤ A local Packers fan in Caledonia transformed his basement into the Cheese Bunker — a game-day shrine where his young sons press a red button that triggers lights and music during touchdowns while he honors his late father's legacy. WSAW
- ➤ Dana Rady from the Wisconsin Potato & Vegetable Growers Association visited Sunrise 7 today to share holiday recipes, including Christmas cookies made with local potatoes and a hearty chicken and dumplings dish that offer local cooks a new twist on festive favorites. WSAW
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Wausau Police Department’s downtown officer initiative has reduced issues like loitering and vandalism between 6th Street and the river and improved community safety. The program will continue in 2026 with two officers patrolling Monday through Friday (supported by the city and the Judd S. Alexander Foundation). WSAW

- ➤ AAA estimates that 2.4 million Wisconsinites, mostly driving, will travel 50+ miles for the holidays with roads busiest from 1-7 p.m. daily, and advises travelers to check emergency kits & pack extra supplies for delays. WSAW

- ➤ Marathon girls basketball team beat Colby 71-54 on Monday night, improving to 5-2 ahead of their game at Wausau West on Jan. 2, while Colby fell to 3-7 and will face Newman on Dec. 30. WSAW
