Good morning, Wausau.
Community members gathered at Forward Beverage Company today to mark the kickoff for the 2025 Walk to End Alzheimer's — the largest fundraiser held by the Alzheimer’s Association, where attendees signed up and received drink tickets.
The official two-mile walk will take place at Marathon Park on September 27th.
Bluegill Bay County Park is hosting the Summer Tsunami event this weekend, organized by four local non-profits to feature fast boat racing, water skiing, and live concerts — over 80 boats are set to race with speeds up to 100 miles per hour while food and donation-based entry support park attractions. Proceeds will help fund the non-profit groups and future events.
A&W will open a new restaurant at 2805 Schofield Ave in Weston on June 23, offering rootbeer and cheese curd.
It replaces Fuzzy's Taco’s, which closed in December 2024 after a brief run, and follows an earlier A&W on the north side that closed in 2019.
Children and teens will have access to free breakfast and lunch this summer at several sites in Wausau and Merrill — most locations require meals to be eaten on site while one allows take-home options.
Local school districts, the Boys and Girls Club and community churches are offering these programs from early June through August.
Child advocacy centers in Wausau will lose tens of thousands of dollars if the state does not secure dedicated funding by June 30.
They get $17,000 from the state plus $80,000 from grants and may cut staff and end key forensic interviews—potentially reducing much-needed support for children.
The Wisconsin Assembly passed Bradyn’s Law, which sets new punishments for sextortion and gives payment help to victims and their families.
The Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee will hold a public hearing Wednesday—then the bill goes to the governor for approval.
At Marshfield Children’s Hospital, facility dog Dr. Dolly Paw-ton comforts 4-year-old Henry—a Wausau boy with Down syndrome and an immune deficiency—during his recurring IVIG therapy and multiple other treatments.
